Yemen’s Ambassador Discusses Strengthening Bilateral Relations with Japanese Assistant Foreign Minister

Yemen’s Ambassador to Japan, Adel AlSunaini , today discussed with Keiichi Iwamoto, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs and Director-General of the Middle East and Africa Bureau at Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, ways to strengthen bilateral relations and the strategic partnership between the two countries, as well as the latest developments in Yemen.

Ambassador Alsunaini expressed the Yemeni government’s appreciation for Japan’s steadfast positions in support of the Presidential Leadership Council and the government, as well as Yemen’s unity, stability, and territorial integrity. He reiterated Yemen’s welcome for the Japanese government’s positions and its condemnation of the Houthi militia’s escalation, attacks on civilians and civilian infrastructure, and threats to international maritime navigation. He also reaffirmed the Yemeni government’s appreciation for Japan’s support for peace and stability in Yemen and the region.

The two sides discussed threats to international maritime navigation, trade flows, supply chains, and energy security in the Red Sea, the Gulf of Aden, and the Bab al-Mandab Strait. They stressed the importance of strengthening international coordination to ensure the freedom and security of navigation and protect the global economy.

For his part, Assistant Foreign Minister Iwamoto reiterated Japan’s steadfast position in support of Yemen’s unity, security, stability, and territorial integrity, as well as its support for the Yemeni government and people. He underscored the importance of maritime security and shipping routes, reaffirming Japan’s continued support for peace efforts and its commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation in a manner that contributes to security and stability in Yemen and the region.
