Yemeni Ambassador Discusses with “JICA” Enhancing Partnership and Supporting Recovery and Reconstruction Priorities in Yemen

The Ambassador of the Republic of Yemen to Japan, Adel bin Ali Alsunaini , discussed with Kotaro Tanaka, Director General of the Middle East and Europe Department at the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), and agency officials, ways to strengthen the strategic partnership between the two countries, and expand areas of cooperation and technical and economic support in line with the Yemeni government’s priorities and plans for recovery and reconstruction.

The Ambassador Alsunaini reviewed the economic, humanitarian, and developmental situation in Yemen, the government’s economic plan and reconstruction programs, emphasizing the government’s aspiration to benefit from Japanese expertise in the fields of planning, post-crisis recovery, reconstruction, and the implementation of priority development projects, particularly in the sectors of infrastructure, energy, transportation, and building national institutions, in a way that enhances paths to sustainable development.

The Ambassador Alsunaini appreciated the continued support of the Japanese government through the “JICA” agency, especially in the areas of food security, education, health, and capacity building, calling for the expansion of development interventions, and the establishment of a joint work mechanism to implement projects through national institutions, foremost among them the Social Fund for Development and the Public Works Fund.

For their part, officials from the Japan International Cooperation Agency reviewed the projects and programs currently being implemented in Yemen and their future plans. The two sides also discussed the outcomes of the agency’s delegation’s visit to the temporary capital, Aden, and the outputs of the workshop with government entities, in a way that contributes to aligning the agency’s programs with the Yemeni government’s priorities and supporting recovery and reconstruction efforts.
