Yemen’s Ambassador to Japan, Adel bin Ali Alsunaini, met with Keiichi Iwamoto, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs and Director-General of the Middle Eastern and African Affairs Bureau at Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to discuss strengthening bilateral relations and the strategic partnership between the two countries, as well as the latest political, military and humanitarian developments in Yemen.
During the meeting, Ambassador Alsunaini outlined the Yemeni Government’s position on current developments and the efforts being undertaken to restore state institutions and end the coup by the Houthi terrorist militias under the framework of Operation “Dawn of Yemen.” He emphasized the importance of continued international support for the Government’s efforts to restore state institutions and achieve security and stability.
Ambassador Alsunaini expressed his appreciation for Japan’s supportive positions towards Yemen’s Presidential Leadership Council and Government, and its commitment to Yemen’s unity, security, stability and territorial integrity. He also commended Japan’s condemnation of the Houthi militias’ escalation and their attacks against civilians and civilian infrastructure.
The meeting also addressed Houthi violations against civilians in Taiz Governorate, the continued siege imposed on the city, and restrictions on the movement of residents and the delivery of essential goods and humanitarian assistance, which have further exacerbated the humanitarian suffering.
Both sides discussed the threats posed by Houthi militia attacks to international maritime security in the Red Sea, the Gulf of Aden and the Bab al-Mandab Strait, as well as their implications for global trade, supply chains and energy security. They underscored the importance of strengthening international coordination to ensure freedom of navigation, maritime security and the protection of vital shipping lanes.

For his part, Japan’s Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs reaffirmed Japan’s support for Yemen’s unity, security, stability and territorial integrity, as well as its continued support for the Yemeni Government and people. He stressed the importance of maritime security, the continuation of efforts to achieve peace and stability in Yemen and the wider region, and the strengthening of bilateral cooperation between the two countries.
