JICA concludes course on artificial groundwater recharge

CAIRO (Saba) - A training course on artificial groundwater recharge organized by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in cooperation with the Egyptian Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation was concluded on Thursday. The 26-day course familiarized 14 engineers, from the National Water Resources Authority (NWRA) and Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation of Yemen, with skills on means of feeding and monitoring groundwater in order to increase its storage in Yemen. The course comes in the framework of the JICA's technical cooperation training program, which is implemented within the Japanese fiscal year 2014.

IOM training program on human rights concluded

ADEN (Saba) - The training program on building the Yemeni capacity in field of protection of the rights of human in the context of migration was concluded here on Monday. The program was funded by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and funded by the British and Japanese governments. The program aimed to get the 92 participants acquainted with skills on human rights and the legal, international and national frameworks in that field, as well as providing psychological and social services to immigrants who their humanitarian rights have been violated. The participants also were familiarized with the concepts of human trafficking and its forms, smuggling of migrants and immigration laws in accordance with national law and international conventions.

Yemen decries killing of Japanese hostage Kenji

SANA'A (Saba) - Yemen condemned on Monday the killing of the second Japanese citizen by the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL). In its statement, the Foreign Ministry said that the murder of Japanese citizen, Kenji Goto, is inconsistent with the basic principles of humanity and morality. Yemen expressed deep sorrow for the criminal incident and offered its condolences to the friendly people and government of Japan, the statement said. Terrorism is a global phenomenon that threatens the security and stability of all countries and requires concerted international efforts to combat it, the Ministry said. Kenji Goto, 47, the freelance journalist was seized in late October in Syria and has been killed after a fail swap between ISIL and the Japan government. Another Japanese citizen, Haruna Yukawa, 42, was killed a week ago, after a deadline for ransom passed.

Haruna Yukawa, 42, has been killed after a deadline for ransom passed and there is another one of the Japanese hostages, Kenji Goto, a 47-year-old journalist who is still surviving.

Yemen, Japan discuss fishery cooperation

SANA'A (Saba) - Deputy Foreign Minister Amir al-Aidaroos discussed on Thursday with Japanese Charge d'Affairs to Yemen Katsumi Moriyasu cooperation in fisheries and making use of Japanese expertise in this field. In the meeting, the two sides also discussed aspects of mutual political support among international organizations and the proposal on reforming the UN Security Council and expanding permanent memberships to more states.
