Japan welcomes UN-sponsored Yemeni consultations in Kuwait

TOKYO (Saba) - Japan welcomed on Sunday the consultations that began Thursday in Kuwait between the Yemeni parties under the auspices of the United Nations. "Japan greatly hopes that all parties participate in the talks in good faith and be fully committed to the cessation of hostilities to guarantee humanitarian aid access to the various regions of Yemen," a spokesman for the Japanese Foreign Ministry said in a statement published on Sunday. The spokesman expressed the Japanese government's hope that these talks would lead to progress in the peaceful political process so as to achieve the stability in Yemen. He confirmed Japan's constant support with the international community for the mediation efforts undertaken by the Secretary General's Special UN envoy to Yemen, Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed, as well as its active contribution to coping with the worsening humanitarian situation in Yemen.
